Boats and Streams Introduction
- DownStream : In water, the direction along the stream is called Downstream.
- UpStream : In water, the direction against the stream is called UpStream.
- If the speed of a boat in still water is u km/hr and the speed of the stream is v km/hr, then
Speed downstream = ( u + v) kmph
Speed upstream = ( u - v) kmph
- If the speed downstream is $x$ km/hr and the speed of upstream is $y$ km/hr, then
Speed in still water = $ {\cfrac{1}{ 2} \times{(x+y)} }$ kmph
Rate of Stream = $ {\cfrac{1}{ 2} \times{(x - y)} } $ kmph
